Friendly Visiting Program

This wonderful program matches seniors who have limited social contact, with a volunteer who visits once a week. This is only offered in St.John's/Mount Pearl  and surrounding areas.

How the Friendly Visiting Program Works

Seniors

STEP 1

If you are a senior or know of a senior who may enjoy a friendly visitor please contact the Seniors Resource Centre.

STEP 2

The program coordinator will visit you, the senior, in your own home to discuss your likes and dislikes. .

STEP 3

The program coordinator will select a volunteer for you and come along with them for the first visit.

STEP 4

If you feel you would like this volunteer to continue visiting you, confirm this with the program coordinator. The coordinator will then call you regularly.

STEP 5

If you have any concerns please feel free to contact the coordinator at any time.

Volunteers

STEP 1

Contact the Seniors Resource Centre and express your interest in becoming a Friendly Visitor.

STEP 2

The coordinator will arrange a personal interview with you.

STEP 3

The coordinator will accompany you on your first visit.

STEP 4

If you decide to continue to visit the senior, we request that you visit once a week for 1 - 2 hours. The coordinator will call you regularly.

What the Friendly Visiting Program Can Offer You:

  • A supportive friendship

  • Regular visits/calls from your volunteer

  • A link to other programs and services of the Seniors Resource Centre and within the community.

Please note that volunteers...

  • Are interviewed and screened personally by the volunteer coordinator.
