Caregivers "Out of Isolation"

We encourage you to download a copy of this Guide and use it as a resource to improve supports for family caregivers in your community. In order for us to know how many people are using this resource, we ask you to send us a quick email at care@seniorsresource.ca.

Objectives:

  • Identify the needs of unpaid caregivers

  • Connect them to information and resources

  • Stimulate support through volunteer groups and formal caregiver systems

Project Resources:

  • Caregiver Line: a toll-free information line providing information and emotional support to unpaid caregivers in Newfoundland and Labrador

  • Caregiver Membership: membership is free of charge and includes a customized information package and quarterly newsletter

  • Regional Caregiver Networks: St. John's, Grand-Falls Windsor, Springdale, Corner Brook and St. Anthony, Twillingate, Happy Valley- Goosebay, Humber Valley

Community Peer Advocates

Community Peer Advocates are volunteer seniors who provide information and assistance to seniors in their own communities across the province. There are 150 Peer Advocates located in 28 communities across Newfoundland and Labrador.

Toll-Free Information & Referral Line

Seniors, or those concerned about seniors, call in with questions, such as how to access home support services; or where to get help with home repairs; or  problems dealing with government departments for pensions and income tax; or concerns about issues such as transportation or elder abuse. The aim is to put callers in touch with services and resources that can help them. Follow up calls are made to make sure the callers obtain the needed assistance.
