Provincial Community Peer Support Volunteer Program
A Peer Support Volunteer is a  senior interested in helping other seniors.

What do Peer Support Volunteers do?
  • Peer Support Volunteers provide to other seniors information about available services and resources
  • Peer Support Volunteers use their own lifetime experiences as well as information from the Seniors Resource Centre
  • Peer Support Volunteers may assist seniors to obtain needed services

Why is the program needed?

  • Often seniors are unaware of services and resources available to them and so not know where to go for help.

  • Many seniors prefer to obtain information informally from people they know.

  • Local seniors are in the best position to know what programs and services are needed in their community.

Who do Peer Support Volunteers work with?

  • Peer Support Volunteers  work with other Peer Support Volunteers

  • Peer Support Volunteers  work with the Program Coordinator and the Seniors Resource Centre NL

  • Peer Support Volunteers  work with resource people in the community

  • Peer Support Volunteers  work with community agencies

What happens if I volunteer?

  • You will be interviewed by the Program Coordinator

  • You will be invited to attend a Training and Orientation session

  • You will be provided with resource information

  • You will help gather additional resource information

  • You will be involved in planning the local Peer Support Volunteers program

  • You will be provided with support through meetings and phone contact

What are the rewards?

  • Satisfaction from helping others

  • An opportunity to learn about existing resources and services

  • An opportunity to make a difference in your community
