What is a Peer Advocate?
A Peer Advocate is a volunteer senior interested in
helping other seniors.
What do Peer Advocates do?
Peer Advocates provide to other seniors information
about available services and resources
Peer Advocates use their own lifetime experiences as
well as information from the Seniors Resource Centre
Peer Advocates may assist seniors to obtain needed
services
Peer Advocates may advocate on behalf of individual
seniors
Peer Advocates may advocate to obtain needed services
and programs
Why is the program needed?
Often seniors are unaware of services and resources
available to them and so not know where to go for help.
Many seniors prefer to obtain information informally
from people they know.
Local seniors are in the best position to know what
programs and services are needed in their community.

What happens if I volunteer?
You will be interviewed by the Program Manager
You will be invited to attend information sharing
sessions
You will be provided with resource information
You will help gather additional resource information
You will be involved in planning the local Peer
Advocate program
You will be provided with support through meetings and
phone contact
