The "Heritage Crafters" had its beginnings from a suggestion made by several Senior Volunteers in the spring of 1999. They were interested in meeting once a week for a social get together and bringing along their craft projects to work on individually while sharing a cup of tea together. They saw it as a way of sharing their ideas and suggested that it could become a way for them to raise funds for the Seniors Resource Centre. Under the direction on the Director of Fund Development for the Centre, a site was arranged and on January 10th, 2000, the first "Heritage Crafters" group met at the Sobey's Howley Estates Community Room on Elizabeth Avenue. Materials would be supplied by donations from businesses and individuals within the Community. Some materials would have to be purchased out of funds raised from their Craft Sales. Group meetings are kept informal with lively discussions and the sharing of craft techniques and ideas for individual as well as group projects. This talented group has produced many quality items which have been well received by the public attending their Craft Sales.
