About Us

What is the Seniors Resource Centre of Newfoundland & Labrador?

The Seniors Resource Centre is a non-profit, charitable, voluntary organization administered by a Board of Directors. As an association, it is dedicated to promoting the independence and well being of older adults in Newfoundland and Labrador through the provision of information as well as various programs and services.

The Seniors Resource Centre provides invaluable services to communities around the province, where Government and social programs often fall short or are being cut. The Centre relies heavily on both the devotion of volunteers and the financial generosity of individuals and corporations. Without this partnership, our programs would not survive.

Some of the Programs and Services offered by the Seniors Resource Centre are:

  • a Toll-Free Information Line

  • a Provincial Peer Advocate Program

  • a Bereavement Support Program

  • a Seniors Bridging Cultures Program

  • a Lifelong Learners Program

  • a Friendly Visiting Program

  • a Grocery Bus Program

  • a Mall-Walkers Club

  • an Elder Abuse Speaker's Bureau

  • a Friday Friendship Club and more...

These programs and services all require funding to remain operational.

How Can I Help The Seniors Resource Centre?

To enable the Centre to plan for the future in a period of increasing restraint, we have established a program of planned giving through wills and bequests. We ask you to consider a planned gift to the Seniors Resource Centre.

You may be able to give more than you might realize while receiving substantial tax advantages during your lifetime.

This program provides for long term financial assistance for the Centre. So many of our efforts are aimed at generating immediate funds to remain operational. A planned gift ensures revenue in the future.

There are many ways you can provide and effective gift. We welcome outright gifts of cash and property but recognize that this approach is not for everyone.

Here are some of the ways you can help:

Life Insurance

A gift of Life Insurance has substantial benefits to both the donor and the charity.

Advantages to Charity:

- Charity receives guaranteed funds on death of donor
- Use of Life Insurance avoids the estate of the deceased and eliminate delays
- An innovative fundraising technique enabling the charity to access a different market

Advantages to Donor:

- Provides an attractive and immediate tax relief to the donor
- Allows a person with a modest income to make a sizeable gift to charity
- Frees up money in a person's estate for other purposes

Will Bequests

After providing for your beneficiaries, you may bequest a specific amount or asset to the Seniors Resource Centre.

In Memoriam Cards

The Seniors Resource Centre could be designated as a recipient in lieu of flowers when making funeral arrangements. We currently have memoriam cards in local funeral homes.
